Episode 6 Continues: So much vfx, so much awesome

There’s still a lot of visual effects work to do for the series, but we’ve made excellent progress on episode 6, and the most difficult work for that episode is behind us. Without giving too much away, I will say that episode 6 has been an interesting challenge, and a stylistic departure from previous episodes. In this episode, we actually get a glimpse of what the spaceship crew was up to before the inaugural launch/complete annihilation of earth. Here’s a vfx shot I recently finished:

I’m in the process now of reassessing how much work still needs to be done on the series, and I’m hoping to make a release date announcement in the near future. Thanks again to our amazing supporters, stay beautiful, and I will update you again soon!

A new office, and Episode 6 progress!

Greetings space enthusiasts and loyal supporters –

Apologies for the long time since my last update! I’ve had to put post production for FIS on hold for a bit while I moved to a new apartment on the north side of Chicago. (Side note: while the phrase “moving to a new apartment” is an apt description, it fails to take into account the extreme assload of work and emotional trauma involved in the process)

But – now that that’s done and I’m settled into my new place, I’m back in action! Here’s where we’re at:

Episode 4 – Done!
Episode 5 – Done!
Episode 6 – Not done!
Episode 7 – Not done!
Episode 8 – Not done!

To elaborate:

We have completed rough cuts of the remaining 3 episodes, and we are in the middle of doing visual effects for episode 6. I’m very excited about episode 6, as it’s a bit of a departure from previous episodes both visually and thematically. Can’t say too much else without being too spoilery, but here’s a behind-the-scenes pic! (pre-visual fx obviously)

And here’s where all the magic will happen from now on:

My new office! Many hours of vfx and editing will be spent here at this desk. Many hours.

More to come!

Space Miniatures shooting complete

We had another very successful miniatures and visual effects shoot this past week! Barring any unforeseen tragedies with the footage, we are officially done shooting miniatures for FIS! We’re not completely done with shooting in general however, as we still need to do a bunch of green screen stuff with extras. I can’t say exactly what its for because the explanation would be chock full of spoilers. I can say, however, that it will be space related and fucking awesome.

The following image does NOT contain any spoilers, although now that I think about it, if we had to rewrite the series, this would have been a good way for the show to end.

Episode 4 Totally Totally Finally Finished!

Just finished final sound mastering and color correction for episode 4 of Fucked! In Space! It seems like the final stages of any video project drag on wayyy longer than you expect them to, so I’m feeling pretty pumped about finally and decisively being able to check Episode 4 off my list. Now its on to mixing, mastering and color correcting Episode 5, and I have one final miniatures/vfx shoot this coming week for episodes 6-8. Still a lot to do, but things are happening!

Shooting Episodes 6-8 Miniatures

This week we began the epic process of filming the last remaining shots needed for the spaceship exteriors for episodes 6,7 and 8 of Fucked! In Space! Its a difficult process, as there is a lot of space ground to cover, but we made excellent progress this week, and hope to finish shooting next week. You’ll note in this photo featuring co-director/producer David Wolff the several hi tech advancements our show has made over the years. First of all, you may have noticed the Canon DSLR camera. In episode 6 of FIS we finally made the leap to High Definition. The first 5 episodes were all shot on my good ol’ SD Canon XL1. Yes – we have been working on this episode that long. You also may have noticed co-director/producer David Wolff sporting the latest in chroma green suit technology. The dinosaur teeth and eyes are for motion tracking obviously – its not like we just used an old Halloween costume because it was green or anything like that. We had to blur out what David was holding, as it would not have been appropriate for general internet audiences. What could it be? You’ll just have to wait and see!

IMPORTANT FIS RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT!

After careful deliberation and many glasses of space juice, I have decided to release the remaining episodes of Fucked In Space on a monthly basis, beginning with episode 4 this Fall, with the series culminating by Spring of 2019. In the meantime I shall be posting updates whenever I can to keep you all in the loop, while dropping tasteful teaser nuggets from time to time, like this important Sex Ed lesson from Amelia Spaceheart

VFX For Episode 5 Complete!

Greetings official fuckedinspace.com world-wide-website viewers! (do you exist? I am not sure, but I shall post anyway!)

Its been a while, so I think its about time for another FIS update. As of today I have finally finished all the visual fx for episode 5, and I am ready to begin the final round of editing and sound design. I’m not sure yet when I will be able to start releasing episodes, but I may be making an announcement soon…

We’ve also been hard at work and are nearing completion on initial rough cuts for the remaining, final 3 episodes. Then its more vfx!

A lot more vfx.

Postcards are In!

Check it out! Official Fucked in Space postcards are here and ready to be shipped out to Kickstarter supporters! Well. after Doctor Scuba has his way with them, of course.

In editing news, Episode 4 is coming along nicely, and I’m just about to begin work on visual effects and “exteriors” for Episode 5. Its been a while since I’ve worked with the ol’ Fucked in Space Spaceship miniature (spoiler alert: its a 2 litir bottle), so I’m not sure what kind of shape its in. Good news though – it doesn’t matter. Exciting times!
